Payme, Nigeria’s PayPal Dead on Arrival?

Nigeria’s electronic payment option just got a new member – Payme, and it seems a lot like Paypal.

Payme really is simple to use. All you have to do is sign up for an account on the site and a personal link is created which allows you to receive money from anyone. Basically, payers do not need to sign up. All they have to  do is visit the site, enter the receiver’s link and then send money via the platform.

Hers’s how it works. First, you fill in your account number and select your bank.screencapture-payme-ng-1480250960373

Once you fill in your account number, it seems to draw up your details used to register at the bank. The next step is to select your preferred username and your location. payme

After that, you fill in your other details. The charge per transaction is N75 and you get to choose who pays for the transaction.screencapture-payme-ng-1480251142805-1

It seems like the site is not fully ready for operation as I noticed a few issues:

  • I tried to add a contact, so I could transfer money and I kept getting an error message. After a number of trials, I gave up.
  • I was only able to add just one card to my account. Hopefully, options of multiple cards would be incorporated because we all know the average Nigerian has got more than one account.
  • The Twitter and Facebook pages for the site were non-existent.

paymeI guess I was not the only one who noticed a few issues as a user tried to reach them via their Twitter page (guess he later realised that the page did not exist).

Well, Payme has got a pretty and very simple interface which I like. Also, the possible ease of transfer of funds is something worth looking forward to but, the problems should be fixed as soon as  possible.
